Sample Best Specialist Services FAQ’s

Q. Why do you need to find the "best" specialist for your unique medical condition?
A. There are large variations in skills, experience, background, and clinical outcomes among specialists treating similar medical conditions. For example, clinical studies have proven that there is large variation in survival and death rates among cardio-thoracic surgeons performing coronary bypass operations on patients with similar medical conditions. The “best” specialist will increase the probability that a patient will have a positive outcome.

Q. Will my personal physician direct me to the "best" specialist?
A. Maybe. Many primary care physicians choose specialists from a list provided by their medical group or insurance plan. Other doctors may choose specialists they are familiar with. Mandatory use of insurance "in plan" doctors, or familiarity does not guarantee a referral to the best specialist. Most physicians do not have the resources, nor the time to find and analyze the performance records of every specialist in their area.

Q. Who is the "best" specialist for your unique medical condition?
A. There are different and important selection criteria for each specialty procedure (ie: surgery, therapeutics, diagnostic tests, etc.). Doctor Evidence will provide evidence, that you can use with the help of your personal healthcare provider(s), to select the "best" specialist.

Examples of selection criteria used to identify a "best" specialist:  (Click Here For Example)

  • Availability of measurable clinical outcomes (negative and positive data)
  • Large number of patients treated, including appropriate length of follow-up of patients to measure their clinical outcomes
  • Availability of data regarding medical conditions of patients treated (to confirm specialist treats patients like yourself)
  • Use of state-of-the-art equipment proven in clinical studies to have best outcomes
  • Participation in high quality clinical research trials (peer-review of the specialist’s treatments and outcomes)
  • Availability of patient satisfaction surveys
  • Board certification

Q. How do you find selection criteria information about specialists?
A. Information about specialists comes from a variety of sources: physician data bank, state medical board, hospital data bank, doctor's clinical outcome documentation ( if available ), records, interviews with health care professionals who work with a particular doctor, medical journals, clinical trial articles, patient surveys, interviews with the specialist, insurance company report cards, etc.
